A tough, physical encounter, against a well drilled and fully committed Oundle side, saw the Blues come away with 5 hard earned points from this, first ever, league fixture between the 2 sides.

Kettering knew that this would be a tough challenge against the most improved side in the East Midlands, over the past 4-5 years.
The Blues took an early lead with a quickly taken penalty from George Newman, who burst through the home defence to score. Harry Owens converted the try to give Kettering a 7-0 lead.
Oundle bounced back, and ill-discipline in the blues ranks led to a penalty five meters out, from the the lineout miscommunication in the Blues ranks saw the home side walk over the line, almost uncontested for a converted try to level things up.
Brett Sturgess then smashed his way over from close range for the Blues second score, which Owens again converted,
Back came Oundle, and pressure resulted in a penalty which they converted to close the gap to 10-14.
Owens, himself, then scored after concerted pressure on the home line eventually told, and the fly-half dived over under the posts. Owens converted the score to stretch the lead to 10 - 21, as half-time approached. Just before the 40 minutes were up, Jordan Butlin was yellow carded and from the resultant penalty Oundle reduced their arrears with a second penalty, 13 -21.
The game, as previously stated, had been extremely physical and both sides had lost players through injury because of this. However, neither side expected a further 12 minutes of play, as the game carried on into the 50 minutes. No further score, and the half finished 13-21.
The second half continued in the same vein, with the Blues dominating proceedings, but never managing to break away, and Oundle always threatening the Blues, defence, which was again, as last week, at its best in the second period, to deny the opposition a single point.
Ketterings bonus point score came when Aaron Kelman crashed over from close range and Owens kick was again successful, as the lead extended to 13-28.
Finally, Steve Freeman scored from another close range effort, and with Owens adding his fifth conversion, the scoreline finished 13 - 35, which looks much worse for the home side than it actually was, as they showed they are more than capable of holding their own at this level, and will undoubtedly be competitive against all sides in the second half of the season.
