Blues eat nearly all the pies

The visitors almost scored in the first minute, when their impressive inside centre burst through and was only brought down by a great ocver tackle from Damo Conyard. From there on though, it was all Blues, and the only surprise was that it took 10 minutes for Aaron Kelman to open the scoring with a forward driven, unconverted, try.
George Newman scored the second from close range, again unconverted to make the score 10-0 after 15 minutes.
Then a 2-try burst in the 20th minute secured the four try bonus point and the game was almost over for Melton with 3/4 of the game still to go. Firstly, Ryan Conyard cut a great line in support and dived over, and then straight from the kick off, the Blues moved the ball wide and broke through, for Conyard's brother Damo to score. Bruce Keir was successful with both conversions to leave the score 24-0.
Archie Toseland then score an unconverted try from close range as the pressure continued to mount on the visitors and Steve Fraher finished off another forward drive for the sixth try of the half, and with Keir adding the extra's and half-time approaching the Blues lead was 36-0.
To their credit Melton were still working hard, and from a turnover when the Blues looked likely to add to their account the visitors counter attacked and their 12 was rewarded for all his efforts with a fine breakaway try in the left corner, to make the halftime score 36-5.
The second half looked as though it would continue in the same vein as the first, when Fraher went over for his 2nd try early in the half, but then the game became more of a stalemate, until Brett Sturgess smashed his way over and Paul Sumner scored one of his typical tries making something out of nothing, to pass the 50 mark with fully 20 minutes left.
However, Melton re-grouped and played the last quarter with a great deal of defiant spirit, which eventually led to a converted try from a close range lineout, which was the least they deserved for their never say die attitude. This proved to be the final score of the day, and the game finished, Kettering 51 - 12 Melton Mowbray.
