Blues show they are no one trick pony at the The Racecourse

Kettering's all round game proved to much for Huntingdon at the weekend, as they produced a 10 try performance worthy of any thoroughbred, to run out 64-24 winners,
This was the best all round performance by the Blues since the back end of last season, as both backs and forwards played their part in a performance which was, at times, unstoppable.
IN all, Kettering scored 10 tries, after a blistering start saw them take a 5-0 lead with a first minute, unconverted try. The hosts came back and kicked a penalty, but this was soon forgotten as 2 further scores by the Blues in the first quarter, saw the home side trailing 17-3 with 60 minutes still to play. With 27 minutes gone the Blues has secured their 4 try bonus point to lead 22-3 and then a fifth try followed from the kick off, this time converted to take the Blues clear at 29-3.
Huntingdon kept battling and rewarded with their first score of the afternoon just before the break to leave the score 29-10 to the Blues at half-time.
Any chance of a Huntingdon comeback was quickly extinguished early in the second half as Kettering scored 3 converted tries to bring up the 50 points with fully 25 minutes to go. Another converted try saw the scoreline reading 10-57 to the visitors as the game entered its final quarter.
As the changes came, so did the game, and Huntingdon recognised a shift in the Blues mindset and took full advantage of this, and the fact that Kettering had 2 players in the sin-bin, to register 2 scores of their own to reduce the deficit and give them some hope of a 4 try bonus point of their own, but the Blues re-grouped and responded with their final converted try of the game, which left the score at 24-64 at the final whistle.
For the record, the Blues scores came through tries from Man of the Match, Harry Owens (2), Steve Fraher (2), George Newman, Joe Newman, Steve Freeman, Jordan Butlin, Paul Sumner and Joe Daniel, who also put in an excellent kicking performance, after missing his first 2 attempts, by converting 7 of the last 8 tries, for a personal points tally of 19.
This coming weekend sees local rivals Wellingborough visiting Waverley Road on Old Players Lunch day, with the Blues looking to build on this fine performance and put pressure on the sides above them.
