Kettering won a hard fought game at home to promotion hunters Syston, 17-5, with a dominant first half, from which the visitors never recovered.

The Blues found their form in a totally dominant first half, which saw the home side score 17 unanswered points, and rarely if ever have their line threatened.
The home side expected a real challenge from their Leicestershire opposition, but this never materialised as the Blues
snuffed out any of Syston limited attacking efforts with impenetratable defence, which saw the visitors become increasingly frustrated. It also has to be said that two first half injuries to a second row and back row player hampered the Syston effort, but the Blues were in control from the word go, and apart from one missed penalty attempt the home side were in dominant mood.
Tries in the first half, from Brett Sturgess after sustained pressure had stretched the Syston defence, Matt Neil who finished off another handling move which outflanked the defence and Steve Fraher who crossed from a catch and drive lineout, with Joe Daniel converting the latter, put the Blues well in control at the break, 17-0.
It was always going to be difficult for Kettering to maintain the level they achieved in the first half, and Syston were always going to fight back, but it was somewhat disappointing that the Blues couldn't add to their score in the second half, which would have secured the bonus point win their dominance surely deserved.
Indeed it was Syston who scored the only points of the half with an intercepted try as the Blues once again launched a dangerous attack.
With the final score 17-5 in the Blues favour, next weeks game at Bedford Ath gives Kettering an immensely difficult task, but an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table .
