Kettering travelled to an in-form Lutterworth side knowing that this was the first of 3 consecutive tough encounters which would have a huge bearing on the outcome of the play-off spot and home advantage if the Blues were to make it.

Lutterworth, with conditions in their favour, started strong and opened the scoring with a first minute penalty. But it wasn't long before the Blues began to dominate proceedings and after a number of phases, Harry Owens crossed from close range for the first of his two tries of the afternoon. Bruce Keir converted from under the posts to see the Blues lead, 7-3.
Back came the home side and after 15 minutes a further indiscretion saw the lead cut to a single point by a second home penalty, after Jordan Butlin had made a superb 70-metre, try saving chase and tackle.
Further pressure from Lutterworth tested the visitors resolve, but the Blues held firm, against a side who had scored 130 points in their last 3 games. Then a great counter attack, started inside the Kettering 22, was taken the length of the field, before Butlin finished off scoring the try 10-metres in from the left touchline. Keir missed the difficult conversion and then the hosts again reduced the points with a third penalty with 10 minutes to the break.
Then, just before half-time, with the Blues camped on the Lutterworth line, one penalty too many saw a Lutterworth player yellow carded and Keir kicked the 3 points to give the Blues a 15-9 lead at oranges.
A great start to the second half, saw Owens jinx through some poor defending for his second try, and with Keir's conversion the Blues extended their lead to 13 points.
The home side were stil in the game, and restored to 15, a 4th penalty reduced the gap, but this was as close as the hosts were to get, as on 60 minutes Keir charged down a clearance kick and reaped the rewards himself with a try and conversion, and any hopes of a home comeback were dashed when, firstly, Butlin made his second try saving chase and tackle, to earn himself Man of the Match, and then the outstanding Dan Ireland scored the final try of the afternoon to see the Blues home, 34-12.
