Bugbrooke began the game in determined fashion and exerted some serious pressure on the Blues defence. Despite this, it was Kettering who opened the scoring with a Bruce Keir penalty, which was soon followed by a Josh Cox try, which was converted by Keir.
Both sides continued to play attacking rugby, but it was 2 penalties which saw the home side close the gap to 4 points, with the second somewhat harshly resulting in a yellow card for Ben Hanger. Despite this, the Blues kept up the pressure and were rewarded with 2 tries before the break, one from Keir, which he converted and the other from Josh Block, with Keir again successful with the boot., as the Blues led 24-6 at half-time.
Kettering introduced two "new, old boys" at half-time, with Will Bowley coming on in the 2nd row, and Harry Owens in the centre, as the Blues went in search of the bonus point try. This wasn't too long coming as a well worked set piece move saw Joe Newman score an unconverted try.
Bugbrooke struck back with a converted try, to give them some hope, but this was extinguished when Tom Connolly burst through to score a fifth team try, for the second week in a row.
The home side had the last word, with an unconverted try of their own, but the Blues were not to be denied and ended up well deserved winners.
