As with the previous week, the Blues started badly, and fell behind to a first minute penalty from the visitors. That, however, was the last time the Blues were threatened in a one sided first half, which saw them camped in the Scouts 22 for long periods, without ever crossing the whitewash to score. Despite their dominance it took the Blues fully 20 minutes to get on the scoreboard with a penalty of there own from Bruce Keir.
Time and again the Scouts line was threatened, but resolute defence, some questionable decision making by the Blues players and an extremely tight touchline call, kept the home side at bay, and at the break the scores were, somehow, locked at 3-3.
After the break it was again the Blues who dominated, but failed to score, even when Scouts were reduced to 13 with 2 yellow cards, the only points that came were from another Keir penalty. Undoubtedly, one of the cards should also have seen a penalty try awarded as the Scouts scrum was driven over the line and a try prevented only by an illegal boot kicking the ball out of the scrum.
Eventually, Kettering did break down the stubborn defence when a burst from Kev Osbourne and a deft offload, saw winger, and man of the match, Tom Connolly weave through a couple of attempted tackles to score under the posts, making the conversion a formality, with the extra's added this time by Ollie Furniss.
This gave the home side the cushion they required and they finished the game pressing for another score, which was once again repelled by the never say die Scouts side.
