The Blues somehow lost this game after dominating for long periods but failing to take advantage, as the home sides hero, Pete Vickers, kicked 3 penalties to secure the win.
Playing up the hill and into the wind didn't seem to phase the Blues as they clearly dominated territorially in the first half. With scoring chances at a premium, Steve Fraher crossed under the posts for a converted try to give the Blues a 7-3 half-time lead.
Turning round the Blues looked to start strong and a great kick off chase and catch from Dan Martin saw the prop charge to within 10- metres of the Welllingborough line. When the ball was spread wide a score looked inevitable, but the Blues backs somehow contrived to mess it up and the chance went begging.
This set the tone for the rest of the game as chances were missed and the home side kept battling up the hill. On 2 of their rare ventures into the Blues territory, other than from Vickers trusty boot, Wellingborough found the Blues defence in generous mood as needless penalties were given away and Vickers did the rest to convert 2 of the chances to give the home side a 9-7 lead.
With almost the last play of the game, Ryan Conyard broke through but his final pass went astray and another and final chance went begging.
All credit to the home side who defended as defiantly as any side the Blues have played this year, and made the most of every chance which came their way. The Blues, for their part, will be bitterly disappointed with their performance and need to have a close look at their approach to games at this point of the season,.
