The visitors began strongly and took the lead early on with a penalty, as the Blues came under tough scrutiny by the referee. However, this was to be one of the few successes the visitors had during the game as Kettering took a strong grip on the set-piece, which helped them to dominate much of the game from there on in.
Ben Hanger crossed for the Blues first try on 15 minutes, supporting a Bruce Keir half break, which was under the posts and made Joe Daniels conversion a simple one. Daniel himself scored the next try picking up a difficult pass excellently, to score near the posts and add the extra's. The full-back then further showed off his kicking skills with a snap drop goal off his wrong foot, as the Blues led 17-3 with just over a quarter of the game gone.
The Blues third try, this time uncoverted, came from man of the match, Steve Fraher, who not only ended up with a hat-trick of tries, but threw in with great accuracy in the rapidly deteriorating conditions, to ensure the Blues dominated the line-outs throughout the game. The Blues led 22-3 at the break and the game was rapidly running away from the visitors.
The 2nd half was only 2 minutes old when Daniel added a further 3 points with a penalty and then Fraher scored his second and the sides 4th, bonus point try, with Daniels conversion putting the game pretty much beyond Bugbrooke with 30 minutes to go.
The visitors kept working hard and were rewarded with a fine try by right wing, Adam Pepper, but this only spurred the Blues on further and Tim Bayes scored a try on 58 minutes, with Fraher getting his third 2 minutes later to dash any hopes of a comeback by the visitors. Daniel converted both scores to finish with a personal haul of 21 points, and see the Blues home with another bonus point win.
