A decent turnout at Waverley Road meant that the morning started with tea, coffee and bacon rolls. Others waited patiently for the bar to open.
Meanwhile, the two sides went through their warm-up drills on the 1st team pitch. The sides were made up from all senior teams, from Vets to Colts. One wearing light blue shirts, the other the dark blue.
It was great to see Gareth Rees and Josh Block back out on the pitch after they both suffered broken jaws earlier in the season.
The referee for the day was Andy Parker. Touch judges for the game were Andrew Keir and Mr. Freeman Jnr.
The first 10 minutes of the game saw the light blues maintaining territory in the dark blues 22. The ground was extremely slippery which led to some entertaining moments for the growing crowd.
Joe Daniel opened the scoring for the light blues with a try right under the posts. Not long after saw a break from Shane Ling for the corner.
A kick from the dark blues saw Joe Daniel scoop it up on his own 5m who then proceeded to weave through the opposition and run the entire length of the field to score his 2nd.
Double agent, Jamie Bartley, then closed off the 1st half with another try for the light blues.
Shortly after the restart saw an impressive break from Gareth Rees putting yet another one over for the light blues. It wasn't long before he repeated this and went over again (with a dive this time).
Jamie Bartley, who had now moved to the dark side managed to open the points for them to the right of the far end posts.
A chip from Tom Bridgeman into the hands of Joe Daniel who then performed a cheeky behind the back pass saw the light blues further extend their lead.
George Lyness complete the blaze of tries from the light blues just before the full time whistle.
Final Score: who cares, everyone had fun and it was great to be out in the fresh air after Christmas lunch!
Thank you to all that took part today and we wish you all A Very Happy New Year!
