As I look back on last season and the huge success the Club had both on and off the pitch, I know people are asking whether we can maintain the huge momentum we have built up. Let me put that rumour firmly to bed, the 2109 - 20 season is about to start and the Blues, coaching & support teams are raring to go and show all our supporters we deserved to be Champions last season and will prove to everyone we have what it takes to play Midlands Premier (Level 5) rugby with a top quartile finish or even promotion again this season!
Last August we were looking at straw like pitches, but this year has been very different. With more rain and a fantastic amount of hard work from David Bream all the pitches are looking first class. The 1st XV pitch is as good as many in The Championship (Level 2) so we should step back and take pride in the quality of the playing facilities we have, including access to those at Tresham College.
During the closed season a lot of exciting things have been happening to make the changing facilities more flexible. The original 1st team changing room has been converted in to two giving us more flexibility and privacy when we have mixed teams playing at the club. The current 1st team changing room now has a proper ceiling, fixed benches and increased changing facilities for the coaching staff. By the time we kick off all the changing rooms, referees and physio rooms will have been refurbished and redecorated. All this work has been done by a few volunteers and my grateful thanks go to them for their continued commitment.
The club continues to 'go forward as one club' and whether you are part of the Seniors, Ladies, Mini/Juniors or Colts there is a buzz of anticipation as to how we can make further progress on the pitch and further improvements off it. Peter May has worked very hard with Pitchero to significantly strengthen our web site offering so please do visit www.ketteringrugby.com and see all the up to date news for yourself.
You will also notice some of the old bar furniture has been swapped out to make your stay in the clubhouse more enjoyable. In the short term there will be further redecoration of the main bar and entrance. It is essential we maintain the clubhouse in top condition as we look to utilise the club more fully and host more social events which will be announced over the coming months.
We want everyone to reap the benefits of being an integral part of KRFC so please remember to renew your membership as soon as possible if you want to take full advantage of your discounts on all bar purchases and reap the benefits of discounts being offered by local businesses.
The Blues are again aiming high so do please come along on a Saturday – your support makes a massive difference. They kick the season off on 7th September at home against Newport Salop at 3pm. Why not help us hit the ground running and join us for lunch beforehand. If you want a great afternoon of friendship and rugby look no further than Waverley Road throughout the whole season.
KRFC is at the heart of rugby in the East Midlands and I look forward to seeing old and new faces throughout the whole season. And finally, to provide further support to the Club I’m delighted to announce Bob Hackett as my Senior Vice President - I’m sure we can find him a few jobs to keep him busy!
Thank you for all your support last season and for the 2019-20 season that lies ahead.
