East Midlands RFU U20 Men crowned Champions in County Championship Final

Peter May17 Jun 2024 - 14:56

KRFC would like to congratulate the EM team on wining the Jason Leonard County Championship at Twickenham on Saturday.

The team secured the victory in a nail-biting final staged at England HQ – Twickenham in a match that went to the final kick of the game.

Despite scoring all the tries of the match the East Midlands team was pegged back by penalties in favour of the Dorset and Wilts opposition. Ultimately a kick at goal secured a 20-18 victory and the celebrations immediately ensued as the ref blew full time.

The squad included several current and former Kettering Players who managed to play a part in the match.

The side was also headed up by EM D.O.R and U20 Manager Toby Horrigan a Kettering Player and Coach with assistance from our very own Brett Sturgess.

The win seals off a sterling season for the side who powered through each stage without loss and showcased some fine grassroots rugby along the way.

We are sure there is a bright future ahead for all of the players involved but this will certainly be a highlight for all of them in their playing careers.

In attendance was Club Chairman – Steve Wilson who stated “ I know I speak for the whole club when I say we are so pleased with this win and are immensely proud of the Blues lads that contributed today and all season to the EM format!”

It is without doubt the club concurs with Steve’s statement and we look forward to supporting representative rugby in our region next season.

Job well done!
